Let’s talk about the current state of theater.
Across America, the commercial theater model relies on ticket sales and chasing trends to survive. That means little room for creative risks or true community engagement. Artists become disposable contractors. What often goes unseen? The work itself suffers when its makers are stretched, stressed, and unstable.
A patron-supported model changes all of this. With the pressure taken off of the artists to secure a return on investment on behalf of the producers, we are able to fuel fearless creativity within the artistic communities, keeping theater accessible, and igniting tomorrow’s artists, audiences, and innovators.
For centuries, storytellers thrived under patronage models, supported by visionaries who understood that art was not just a commodity, but a necessity. This kind of fiscal support built the great artistic movements of history, and is the reason we remember names like Guggenheim and de’ Medici.
The great patrons of the past knew then what we know now: stories shape the way we understand the world — and they shape the way we build the future. With the support of likeminded individuals, not only will New American Ensemble be able to stage performances that result in a lasting impact on audiences; we will usher in a new Golden Age of theater in The United States.
We want true believers.
We are seeking those who want to be part of a modern renaissance; a return to theater as something enduring, something profound, something that cannot exist without the people who believe in it. Any level of support moves us closer to realizing this mission.

Why a patronage model?
Since 2017, Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective has championed and produced new plays throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Through the programming of mainstage productions, community focused readings, and new play programs such as INCUBATION SERIES + INCUBATE NYC, we’re driven by our commitment to foster new work for New York City.
WHY ARE WE CALLED EGG & SPOON?
Our mission is perfectly captured in the image of an egg and spoon race. We're cradling something delicate, focused on walking forward. And if the egg falls or breaks, we pick it up or get another. The joy that is present at block parties and field days is community-centric. It brings us together, for the sake of bringing us together. We hope that we can nurture artists and stories in a similar fashion, with care, and always with a playful spirit.
Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective is a proud member of the Alliance of Resident Theatres New York (A.R.T./NY), which is is an arts service organization dedicated to supporting New York City’s vibrant community of nonprofit theatres.
FISCAL SPONSORSHIP
